The first family of Facebook shares their Recurrent Miscarriage story

Kudos to Priscilla Chan and her husband Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook fame for sharing their story of miscarriages and ultimately a successful ongoing pregnancy. In this day of folks sharing their most intimate personal stories with the media, it almost seems cliche.

However, to those of us who care for couples suffering from recurrent pregnancy loss, this is a great teaching moment. As we discussed earlier on our blog, public misconceptions about miscarriages are rampant. So what are the take home messages from the Zuckerberg's story:

  • If you have had a miscarriage, you are not alone. Miscarriages are very common.

  • Most couples with miscarriages, even a few, will go on to have a baby

  • Miscarriages are affect couples of all ages and socioeconomic status, even the rich and famous

  • There is help available. Recurrent miscarriages can usually be successfully treated.
