March is endometriosis awareness month

pivf-deep-endometriosisFor those who are not aware, March is endometriosis awareness month. Endometriosis is a very common disease in women of reproductive age and most reproductive medicine specialists and obstetrician-gynecologists, are very familiar with it. Simply put, endometriosis is a disease in which the tissue which lines the uterus (the endometrium) grows in places where it does not belong, most commonly in the pelvis. It is a common cause for pelvic pain, painful periods (dysmenorrhea), painful intercourse (dyspareunia) and infertility, but endometriosis also can occasionally cause cyclic symptoms in different parts of the body. Most of the time, the disease is diagnosed by laparoscopy.  The treatment can be different when a patient is being treated for infertility or pain. You can get more info at the Endometriosis Association.
